Music and Cool Stuff

Updated 10/14/2013

Finally was able to catch up on all the music and life in general that I missed out on for the past few weeks. Was surprised with many of the recent albums that have come out, including PANIC! at the Disco's newest release
Too Weird to Live-Too Rare to Die!. I haven't been the biggest fan of PATD since their first album (which is amazing), but this is a good step for them and their perpetually changing style of music. Here's the second single off the album "This Is Gospel."

Sleigh Bells went back to the Treats style and I loved it on their new album Bitter Rivals. One of my favorite tracks "Sugarcane"

The Bloody Beetroots came out with one crazy electronic album that I highly recommend called Hide, and here's my favorite track, "Runaway" featuring Greta Svabo Bech, who was also featured on Deadmau5's "Raise Your Weapon." BUT WAIT! That's not all for electronic music.

RJD2's More Is Than Isn't also worth a listen if you're into his style of electronica, especially this track "Winter Isn't Coming." He goes all over the place in the album and really shows off his creativity. Quite the live performer, as well. Really showed what he could do at UM's Homecoming last year.

Avicii's album, True, driven by the popularity of "Wake Me Up," is taking the world by storm and is definitely Avicii sticking to what made him one of the best in the business. My favorite track off the album: "You Make Me"

Started listening to The Fratellis' new album We Need Medicine and was really impressed. I don't know much by them, but will definitely be exploring more after hearing the new album. "This Old Ghost Town" is a top 3 track off the album.

However, my favorite release from the past few weeks has definitely been Saves the Day by the band Saves the Day. Their self-titled release was everything that makes Chris Connolly great. They blend his voice with those heavy indie guitars to perfection. It was so good that I couldn't pick one song. I had to put 2, yet I still want to give "Verona" an honorable mention as my third favorite track. "Lucky Number" and "Xenophobic Blind Left Hook" off of Saves the Day's self-titled album.

JK Rowling releasing a new screenplay: a spinoff of the Harry Potter series dealing with the animal life of Hogwarts, but about 70 years before the Harry Potter series took place. I'm looking forward to this whole series. Just like every Potterhead I cannot wait until this is released. It looks very promising, but I do want to see her depart from the usual Harry Potter kind of stuff a little more. Don't get me wrong I will see this the day it comes out.

Here's some music, as well. Been on a old school R&B kind of grind and one of the greatest of all time is Sam Cooke. From this era and this genre of oldies, he is absolutely my favorite. This song and
"Wonderful World" (made popular by Animal House) display his talent and the creative nature of his lyrics. A great artist who I consider one of the 5 greatest voices of all time.

Man of Steel
sequel. Many people think this will ruin the sanctity of Batman, but I think it won't be terrible. Ben Affleck has definitely changed as an actor over the past few years and it definitely won't be Daredevil all over again (thankfully) due to the fact that Christopher Nolan will have a huge role in the production and he rarely, if ever, disappoints. It will be interesting to see if DC Comics movie franchise will be able to even touch what Marvel did with the entirety of The Avengers, but it shows hope for a future Justice League movie. One thing is for certain: I will see this movie.

Taylor Swift surprising all her LA fans at her show at the Staples Center by bringing Tegan and Sara on stage and performing "Closer" with them. Glad these ladies are finally getting the big time recognition they deserve. Keep it up and I can't wait to see them perform live in a few weeks with Fun.

Harrison Ford on Conan taking a bribe to talk about the new Star Wars movie. Mr. Ford has still got it! I really can't wait for Episode 7 even with all the Disney controversy surrounding it. I don't think they'll
ruin the movies (I mean how much worse can it get than Jar Jar) but J.J. Abrams has been known to deliver. As long as it isn't as cheesy as the Star Trek movie endings were, then I approve. Put a quality story with some cool lightsaber effects and make it dark. That's all I'm gonna say. May the Force Be With You.

Mackelmore performs "Same Love" live with Tegan & Sara at Osheaga in Montreal. The song is against homophobia in the rap world today and featuring Tegan and Sara really makes this song more amazing then it already was. Mackelmore has started to grow on me, even though I wasn't a big fan of his music at first. This definitely makes me a bigger fan of him just because I absolutely love the twins.

Long time no update. With summer flying by, here's a classic remade by a classic group. Rush performing Summertime Blues off of their 2004 EP "Feedbacks" just because... there ain't no cure for the Summertime Blues.

Can't get enough Krewella? Well neither can I. Krewella releasing an acoustic version of their extremely popular song "Alive," showing that they are more than just DJs and actually have talent in other branches of music.

New Nicky Romero & more importantly Krewella who are one of my favorite groups ever. I'm so happy for them getting this popular after featuring me on their Krewlife Ep. 1 video to a shoutout I got in an interview that my friend did. Amazingly proud and a loyal follower. The opening beat is really catchy and has been stuck in my head all day.

Here's the Krewlife video with me at 7:45 into the video. This is from September 2012.

New Snoop Lion album is surprisingly very good. And I don't say that about much music these days. Also I've grown a soft spot for Miley Cyrus. She's dropped the whole goody two-shoes act and has really grown into her own. Good feature on one of my favorite songs on the album. It's going to be a hit. Calling it now.

I love Paramore and one reason behind that is lead singer Hayley Williams. Here's her showcasing her talent with a great song.

Bringing back memories from my recent adventure to India. A short cab ride back to our hotel and we jammed out to this song at full volume. We had a really cool cabbie.

One of my favorite groups of all time. Benjamin Gibbard is quite possibly the greatest lyricist of my generation.

Been in love with this song recently, but a bit late on my part. A big thank you and belated birthday shout out to Mike H. for showing me this song.

For Brian B. A classic from his home and one of the greatest songs and albums of all time. Red Hot Chili Peppers: Californication

I really have no idea what is going on in this music video, but it's a very good song, so I don't particularly mind. Steve Aoki f. Kid Cudi and Travis Barker: Cudi the Kid
